The Premiere
Salt of The Earth premiered in Venice in September 2024, a city which has already lost 85% of its salt marshes. Walking into a salt warehouse on Giudecca, filled with 40 tonnes of salt, audiences were transported into the story of Salt of The Earth and the world of the salt marshes. The theatre installation included a choir of 30, cast of 6 and an immersive film shot on location in the Venetian salt marshes.
The production convened scientists from around the world, philanthropists, journalists and saltmarsh stewards of the Venetian Lagoon. Salt of The Earth also supported on the ground projects, funding a research position at the University of Padova and two local community projects working with saltmarshes: The Tidal Garden & We Are Here Venice. These relationships, and new ones at a global level, have continued to develop, positioning Salt of The Earth as the urgent and vital creative mouthpiece for these precious ecosystems.
Salt of The Earth is currently orienting its unique position as the creative mouthpiece for this critical and undervalued ecosystem, with plans to travel to UNOC in Nice, France (June, 2025), the UK, return to Venice, New York and beyond. For updates please subscribe to the mailing list here.
